Kindermusik with Carla

CARLA ENGLE
Director and Educator, Kindermusik with Carla

Carla's interest and gift for music began in childhood and continued as she excelled during her high school years as a piano student, accompanist, and teacher. This music interest led her to West Virginia Wesleyan College where she received her Bachelor of Music Education.

Since graduation from college she has attended and taught numerous workshops and seminars. Her most memorable study experiences include extensive Orff studies at Western Carolina University and a four-week experience at The American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.

Carla has been employed as a pianist, organist, Program Director and Director of Church Music. In her position as Director of Music she created, developed and directed seven adult and children's choirs utilizing Orff instruments, handbells, and choirchimes as well as voices. She has been a private piano instructor for over 20 years. She frequently accompanies the Larry Parsons Chorale, Chanticleer (a professional children's chorus), and soloists around the state.

It was the joy of teaching young children that led Carla to become a licensed Kindermusik Educator. To enable children and their parents to communicate and grow together through music is her dream.

Carla has been selected by Kindermusik International as a member of the Maestro Program – an exclusive membership that annually recognizes licensed educators who have demonstrated superlative performance and masterful teaching. Her program is in the top 5% in the nation! Carla is also on the faculty of Kindermusik International where she is one of 12 educators who oversee and mentor the training of all new educators worldwide.

Carla and her husband, Steve, have four boys, Richard, Chad, Steven, and Russell. They enjoy a 153-year-old log home, which Steve re-built on a farm in Harrison County, WV. Ducks and dogs, cats and calves, kids and katydids, compose their daily music.

RITA BROCKWAY
Educator, Kindermusik with Carla

Rita Brockway is a flutist and teacher in addition to being wife to Rich and mom to Cassia May, 5 and Ella Bess, 3. She began playing flute when she was 10 years old and has sung in choirs throughout her schooling. She obtained her music degree in flute performance from Duquesne University (Pittsburgh, PA) in 1990. After experiencing Kindermusik® classes with both of her daughters, Rita was anxious to join Carla in sharing Kindermusik® with other little children and and their familes. In the fall of 2001 she completed training with Kindermusik® International and is now a licensed Kindermusik® educator. She leads classes as part of Kindermusik with Carla both in the studio and in special needs preschool classes in the Harrison County schools.

She has cultivated programs for young musicians as early as her college years, with the Mid-East Music Festival (Pittsburgh). She was fortunate to begin her career in professional performing arts circles in the Washington, DC area: on staff of the National Symphony Orchestra's Education Program at The Kennedy Center; on staff of the American Symphony Orchestra League and ultimately as manager for the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras from 1991-1995. In addition, she was a performing member of The Washington Chorus, and principal flutist of both the George Washington University Community Orchestra and the Fairfax Symphony’s Summer Band.

Currently she serves as a music minister at All Saints Church in Bridgeport, WV. Throughout the region she appears at weddings and special events as SilverWood, a flute and guitar duo, with John Vaughan. For the past two seasons, she has performed with West Virginia Public Theatre (Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, and The Music Man) and the Morgantown Municipal Band. Since relocating to Clarksburg in 1996, she has also enjoyed performing with Chanticleer Children’s Chorus, the Larry Parsons Chorale, the Madrigal Singers of Clarksburg, Anna’s Expressions of Dance Studio, and the Act 2 Theatre Company.

Rita has mentored young flute players for the past 10 years. She is excited about providing a new flute class and ensemble, Flutissimo, as a unique opportunity for young flutists. She is committed to providing a high-quality experience for participants, which will strengthen both the technical and expressive aspects of their flute playing. Members of Flutissimo will benefit from an increased understanding and appreciation for classical music, and their musicianship will be heightened through the intimate experience of chamber music.
