Schedule of Classes: Spring 2012
All Classes begin week of January 30, 2012
and end the week of May 18, 2012

| Village | Our Time | Imagine That! | Young Child |

Hop on the hayride—it’s time to head for the farm! In the Cock-a-doodle-MOO! unit of Kindermusik Village, families will sing songs about the farm, including “Old MacDonald,” “Hayride,” and “Clever Cows.”  They’ll engage in rituals and playful activities for baby and caregiver, including infant massage, lap bounces, exercise, and quiet time.  During the week, families will enjoy their At Home Materials, looking through a playful picture book of animals and the sounds they make, as well as a CD of the songs heard in class and an instrument for music-making at home.

Dew Drops
Stop and smell the roses—and lily of the valley, and tulips, and pansies... in the Dew Drops unit of Kindermusik Village, you and your child will play and move together to songs about flowers, such as “Jasmine Flower,” “How Does Your Garden Grow?,” and “White Coral Bells.” Enjoy some traditional Irish music as you dance a jig, move to the “Irish Trot,” and exercise to “Did You Ever See a Lassie.” In the At Home Materials, you’ll receive a CD of beautifully arranged songs from class, a board book of flowers, and an instrument for music-making at home.

Toddlers love to GO.  Going is their gift, their license to venture out into the world.  With toddlers’ desire to go comes an attraction to other things that go – cars, planes, buses, horses, wagons, airplanes, and boats, and the list goes on.  In Away We Go!  parents and children explore the exciting world of transportation.  “What are things that go?”  “How do they go?” “How do they sound when they go?”  “Can I go like that?”  “Can I make sounds like that?”  Sing and play along with favorite songs, such as “I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad” and “Wheels on the Bus”.  Explore fast and slow, smooth and bumpy, and high and low. Two literature books tell stories, Shiny Dinah tells the story of a train, and Giddy-Up! has a horse, speedboat, racecar, and more to help you get where you want to go.  Move, play, and sing together in developmentally appropriate activities created just for 1 1/2 to 3-year-olds. In addition to the 2 storybooks and a 2 CD set, families will receive a Home Activity Book, a train carrying box, and 2 harmonicas (one for a parent and one for a child) to play along with songs like “Riding the Rails”,  “Alabama Gal”, and “Arkansas Traveler.”

What’s more exciting to a 3- or 4-year-old than a new toy?  How about an entire toy shop full of toys!  A full toy shop is exactly what your child will experience in the Kindermusik Imagine That! class.   Toys I Make, Trips I Take leads the child on a magical journey into a remarkable Toy Shop filled with boats, trains, balls, jack-in-the box and many other toys that bring a twinkle into a child’s eyes.  Kindermusik creates a stimulating musical environment that integrates music, pretend play, story telling, movement and more.  The excitement may begin in the toy shop, but how exciting it may be to sail off in our toy boat to a far away tropical island.  Or perhaps we’ll take our toy train over the mountains and through the valleys.  Imagine That!

In the fall semester your child will prepare to learn to play the glockenspiel by developing his steady beat, motor skills, listening and reading skills. We?ll begin to read notes and rhythms and solidify a pitch center that will be used for the next four semesters. The children will also begin to learn about the orchestral instruments.

In the spring, we will further develop your child's instrument playing skills while developing the greatest instrument of all ? the voice! Pressure free, developmentally appropriate concepts help effectively prepare children for formal music instruction after age seven.

In the fall, your child will continue her musical studies with an introduction to Appalacian music (through dances, songs, and the use of the 2-string dulcimer), continue to learn more of the notes on the staff, more musical concepts and dance, play games, sing and play to multi-cultural music.

The spring semester explores multicultural music – from Japan to Hawaii to Africa, just to name a few! Your child will learn basic notation concepts on his or her first wind instrument – the recorder – while gaining confidence and appreciation for their own musical gifts.
